Aaron Carroll grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia on a small farm. He attended Chowan College in North Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. In order to advance his career in athletics, he attended the United States Sports Academy in Alabama, where he received his Master of Science degree in Sport Management.
